He said: “Our mentalities are in two different places. I feel like he’s on his way out, and I was going to open the door for him – give him another path to follow his fashion dreams and follow wherever he wants to go. I think he’s already got one – something’s out the door and I was going to add to that. Whether he retires after or not, it’s up to him.”

Going into the fight, Edwards is looking extremely confident and fighting in his home country does add a lot to that mentality.  For Usman, overcoming all that pressure and reclaiming the title, it’s going to be a monumental task.

Kamaru Usman wants to break Leon Edwards’s spirit and soul at UFC 286

Kamaru Usman was one of the most dominating fighters in UFC and was undefeated before fighting Leon Edwards at UFC 278. In the fight, it was Usman who was leading in points until the last kick that came out of nowhere.

In an interview with ‘The Pivot Podcast’, the ‘Nigerian Nightmare’ mentioned that he has already recovered from the loss and has plans to destroy Edwards completely in the rematch.

He said: “I’ve never been in this position, but I know that mentally, nothing has changed for me. This is the same guy that I beat up before. He’s still going to be the same guy. When I fight guys, I fight their heart because I want to break their heart. I want to break their spirit and break their soul.”

Despite that nasty knockout and the age factor, it will be foolish of Edwards to take Usman lightly.  Both fighters have an equal chance to win the fight and it is definitely going to be an amazing showcase of MMA.
