BOISE, Idaho (CBS2) — Some changes for Boise State football fans came out of the Idaho State Board of Education Meeting today.
Boise State University has been looking to renovate the North End zone by adding seats, restrooms, and concessions. They've waited to announce the project dates until approval from the Idaho State Board of Education.
The expansion would add onto the North End Zone, adding just over 15 hundred more premium seats.
BSU is estimating the project to cost around 64.7 million, with bonds covering 30 million, the institution covering 10 million, and the remaining cost coming from donors.
Boise State has been working with the board on the project for two years.
William Gilbert, the BAHR Vice President, said, "As a reminder in October of 2022 we gave financial approval for planning and design and then in August of 2023 we approved an increase of the October 2022 authorization of 2.5 million so we went from 2.5 to 5 million."
There were concerns from board members about the funds generated by the expansion. Boise State leaders said the expansion would generate around 4 million dollars of annual revenue before operational costs.
Jeramiah Dickey, BSU's Athletic Director said, "Already for this project we have over 220 accounts and we're projecting 70 percent of the campaign revenue based on the initial interest."
He shared the demand for cash flow comes from the premium seating and they already have a waiting list for the upcoming additional seats.
The approval of the construction and expansion project with a cutoff total cost of 76.1 million dollars was passed unanimously.
