Statistics show Cristiano Ronaldo has lost the most number of games as a percentage of total league games this season than all other time in his whole football career.
Nothing has gone up to plans for Manchester United this season, they were one of the heavy favorites to compete for the Premier League after finishing second last season, and with the arrival of the blockbuster signing of Raphael Varane, Jadon Sancho, and none other than the GOAT Cristiano Ronaldo.
Cristiano Ronaldo started the season on fire scoring in every half-chance coming his way, but since the arrival of the interim boss, Ralf Rangnick has had a dip in his form.
United established players such as club captain Harry Maguire, Marcus Rashford, Paul Pogba, and many others had been heavily criticized for their substandard performances which also eventually lead to the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjær and the appointment of Ralf Rangnick which hasn’t been fruitful with United having 58 points after 37 games which is their worst points tally in Premier League era.
Speaking of Cristiano, his stats in every aspect this season are not up to the mark of his usual lofty standards. He is taking lesser shots than usual inside the box and the number of big chances which eventually are created for him is also an all-time low which can be down to United’s performance as a whole.
But a more daunting number is the percentage of matches lost to the total number of games Cristiano has played for Manchester United this season which is 23.68% (Ronaldo has played in 9 out of 11 League matches lost this season). This might not be shocking knowing that Manchester United are having their worst season in the Premier League era.
But, if you compare this with Cristiano’s other stints since his senior debut, the maximum percentage of matches he has lost during his tenure with any club is 10.58% which was with Juventus over the span of three years. This percentage is the lowest during his nine years with Real Madrid i.e 9.13% which is astonishing keeping in mind that they won the league only two times during that period.
Cristiano’s Ronaldo first stint at Manchester United made him a household name with his performance having 9.60% of matches lost over a period of six years. However, one thing needs to be kept in mind, even with Manchester United struggling, Cristiano Ronaldo’s goal-scoring instincts are crystal clear. He has scored 18 goals in the league this season which is the joint second-highest tally of his Premier League career.
