After retiring from a 13-year legacy in the NFL, Jason Kelce is ready to embrace the next chapter of his life as he’s officially ready to join television. But those who’ve known the center since the beginning knows quite well about his dynamic personality, making him perfect for the field he is embarking on.
Long before he could explore the option of running a podcast with his brother, Travis Kelce, the former Philadelphia Eagles center was a favorite among the reporters because of his insightful and humorous commentary. It was highly anticipated that Kelce would succeed if he joined television but he didn’t plan for it to happen this early.
Though the retirement rumors have always been in the air, the six-time All-Pro center didn’t think it would happen this year. While talking about Philly’s downfall last year from 10-1 to finish at 11-6, the legendary center opened up about what prompted him to retire.
First of all, whenever you lose that many games in a row, it’s never just one person or one area. It sounds pretty bad, but the same as when you’re winning at a high level, when you’re losing at a high level, every area is struggling, including players, coaches, and talent. I think we had a lot of talent last year but there were pieces that we were missing...Obviously, we lost two coordinators, which didn’t work out with the replacements.Jason Kelce said via Associated Press
Kelce believes last season the players including himself couldn’t perform at the level and standard they set the year before, by advancing to the Super Bowl against his brother’s team, Kansas City Chiefs.
Jason Kelce embraces retirement despite time at Eagles camp
Since retirement, Kelce has been enjoying his other endeavors and spending quality time with his family. From attending Taylor Swift’s concert in London to exploring endorsement opportunities, the former NFL center is utilizing his retirement life fully before taking on the job of a lead analyst.
Additionally, he is working on getting in shape and slimming down since he no longer requires such a heavyweight. He has vigorously worked on his weight loss and reduced his weight from 295 pounds to 275 pounds, and plans to lower it down to 260 pounds, thanks to his wife.
Although retirement was extremely tough for the seven-time Pro Bowler, Kelce knew it was time for him to embrace other chapters of his life. That’s why, despite spending a significant amount of time at Philadelphia camp, Kelce has no plans to un-retire from the league.
